A warm welcome to the readers. I’m starting with an informal story about my love for jewelry and my passion for reading global trends! I’m sure it will intrigue you too. So let us dive into the world of jewelry!

Reading and studying fashion trends was part of my work as a design student. It later became a habit and eventually second nature. I studied jewelry trends for 2019 and 2020 in November 2018 via a lot of sources.

Here’s what I found

After a thorough market survey and trend research of the global jewelry market I came across certain design aspects, technical factors and concepts which dictated styles for 2020. The major pointers from this study were: Subjects: Sunburst motif, Art Deco influence, Geometric forms, Assymetric forms.

Metal finishes: Hammered, high gloss, brushed.

Stones/pearls: Black pearl, white pearl, sapphire, labradorite, cubic zircons, turquouise. Colours: Turquouise, gray, deep blue, brown, rose gold, pale gold, dark metallic gray.

Jewellery styles: Hoop earrings, short heavy necklaces, long chains with pendant, etc.

All of which I predicted in my trendboard for 2020 #trends2020

Another trend line was as below

Subjects: Face silhouette, Organic forms- floral and leaf, Geometric shapes and forms, assymetric forms.

Metal finishes: High gloss, satin.

Stones/pearls: White pearl, jade, labradorite, rose quartz, cubic zirconia (white), aquamarine, tigereye.

Trendboard 2019–20

Both these trends speak of how the new generation has a taste for classic styles from Art Deco period and how they want to be experimental, fluid at the same time.

The most inspiring Sky drop necklace by Boucheron

A major trend that surfaced in 2020 is the plethora of bold new cuts and shapes of gemstones. Combinations of semiprecious and precious stones in jewelry. Use of never seen before materials in jewelry such as the #aerogel pendant necklace by Boucheron as seen above.

Here are few trend confirmations from my study conducted in 2018 for 2020

Trend research led to the conclusion of upcoming inspirations such as — Art Deco influence, mother of pearl, feather/wing forms, use of atypical materials and shapes ex: semiprecious stones, black pearls, etc. Inspirations from other worldly bodies ex: Sun, moon, stars, planets, etc.

This prediction has been confirmed on the international jewelry front with the High Jewelry collections released by International Brands. Following is one such collection:

Contemplation by Boucheron

Trend research also suggested upcoming inspirations such as — gender fluid designs, sculptural forms, use of aquamarine stone, Inspirations from nature relating to transparency — water droplet, rain, plant tendrils, dandelions, etc.

With all these innovations in tow the bottom line is that we are moving towards a great change in the jewelry trend world and fashion world in general!

Hope you found my work interesting.

See you next time with fresh insights about International jewelry!
